Attendance

The Barking and Dagenham Attendance Team works with our Attendance Officer to advise on attendance management issues and to take referrals on pupils who attend irregularly.

The attendance officers visit parents and pupils in their homes and undertake assessments of the causes of poor school attendance and then identify strategies and action plans to resolve difficulties and improve school attendance.

In situations where parents fail to ensure regular school attendance, the Access and Attendance Team will consider issuing a Fixed Penalty Notice – £80 per parent per child payable within 21 days, rising to £160 per parent per child payable within 22-28 days or if it is the second offence. Non-payment will result in prosecution and further offences could result in court action.

We’re pleased to announce that Eastbury is introducing a new,  system for reporting your child’s absence due to illness, on My Child At School (MCAS). If you haven’t already, set up your login ready, and use it to tell us whenever your child’s ill and unable to attend school or alternatively please contact the school on 0208 477 9910 ext. 1 to report any absences.

Please do not book holidays during the school term as this will affect your child’s progress. The school will not approve any holiday absences and you may receive a fine.

We have noticed that there has been an increase in the number of children leaving before the end of

the school day to attend medical or dental appointments; this is having an adverse impact on their learning. While we accept it is not possible to schedule all appointments outside school hours, we would be grateful if parents could do everything possible to request appointments at those times. All check up appointments need to be made outside of school times. For any emergency appointments evidence will need to be provided to the school, without evidence the absence will be marked as unauthorised.  If this is not possible, please let the office know in advance – at the latest, before school on the day of the appointment. We will then provide you with a letter that the doctor/dentist can sign or stamp to confirm that you attended an appointment at that time. If you do not notify us in advance, then your child may be involved in a learning activity that they cannot be released from.
