Welcome to our Year 2 Page
Ms Owen (2A), Ms Dhiman (2B), Mrs Mayurashanth (2C) Miss Curtis (2D) would like to welcome you to our Year 2 page.
About Year 2
We provide a positive learning environment where all children are encouraged to become independent learners as well as engaged and challenged in their learning in order to reach their full potential.
In Year 2 the children are taught through formal lessons, which helps to build up their knowledge and confidence in all subject areas. We provide children with engaging activities which ensure they will achieve to the best of their ability.
KS1 SATs
In year 2, pupils will be sitting their KS1 SATs tests. There are 5 test papers:
• Reading x 2
• English grammar, punctuation and spelling
• Maths arithmetic
• Maths reasoning
The SATs will take place in May. More information about this will be shared with you throughout the year as well as ways in which you can support your child to achieve their best in year 2 and prepare them for KS2.
Children will be given a standardised score from the test, however this will be used alongside teacher assessment of the children’s work throughout the year. Together this will build up a picture of your child’s learning and achievements. At the end of the year, your child will receive an overall result:
• Working below key stage
• Working towards expected
• Working at expected
• Working above expected
Please use this very helpful website for parents below for more information about the SATs, previous SATs papers and ways in which you can support your child at home.
RHE Parent Meeting
Helping your child
Please ensure your child comes to school everyday and on time. Arriving to school on time is crucial as we begin our school day at 8.45am and learning begins straight away.
Please support your child in completing their homework regularly as we use homework as a challenge and extension of what we have been learning in class. Homework is given out every Thursday and is due in every Tuesday.
Please make sure you listen to your child read everyday and ask them questions about what they are reading. There are some examples of questions you can use on this page. Click on the link: ‘reading with your child.’ You will also find some writing ideas that you can use to encourage your child to practise their writing skills.
To see what children are expected to be able to do independently by the end of year 2, we have also added the year 2 targets so that together, at school and at home, we can support your child to achieve the expected standard by the end of the year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask the class teacher or the year group lead Miss Edmonds.
